Goal Zero alternatives by size
Compare rival power stations in equivalent capacity classes. This page owns “alternatives to Goal Zero” intent; it does not duplicate the Goal Zero lineup or exact model-vs-model decisions.

What Goal Zero optimizes for
Goal Zero sells heritage and ruggedness — it claims to have created the category, and prices against durability and a US support operation rather than against watt-hours.
What the manufacturer claims
Quoted from the manufacturer’s own material. We have not tested these claims.
Goal Zero describes itself as "the proud originator of the portable power station, bringing our first design to market in 2009".
goalzero.com — About us →Goal Zero markets metal casings — "No flimsy plastic casings here" — alongside "5 Levels of Safety", "only Tier 1 batteries", a US-based onsite service team, and up to a 5-year warranty.

What the Goal Zero units we track show
Computed from the sourced specifications of the models in our catalogue — a deliberately selected slice of what this brand sells, never the full lineup.
All three Yeti units we track are LiFePO4 rated 4,000 cycles with a 5-year warranty — the highest rated cycle life of the three brands added here, and matching the best in our catalogue. Where the sourced specs push back is output per watt-hour: the Yeti 700 pairs 677 Wh with a 600 W inverter and the Yeti 300 pairs 296.96 Wh with 350 W, both modest against similarly sized rivals, and none of the three is expandable. The Yeti 1500 is the exception, with a 2,000 W inverter and 900 W of solar input against 1,505 Wh.
Limits of this evidence: Three units, and the claims that matter most here are the ones we are least able to check. Casing material, "5 Levels of Safety" and "Tier 1 batteries" are Goal Zero’s descriptions of its own construction, and no independent measurement of durability exists for any of the three. Cycle ratings are manufacturer figures, not measurements.
Lineup at a glance
Alternatives are grouped by the same published capacity cohorts used by the scoring system. The matrix never calls a rival cheaper, lighter, or more powerful unless both relevant readings are present.

Frequently asked
- Is Goal Zero worth the premium over newer brands?
- On the numbers we can source, the case is cycle life and warranty — 4,000 rated cycles and 5 years across all three units we track. What the specs do not support is buying it for output: the Yeti 700 and Yeti 300 carry smaller inverters than similarly sized units elsewhere in our catalogue, and none of the three expands. Durability is the brand’s central claim and the one thing we have no way to test.
- Can I expand a Goal Zero Yeti with extra batteries?
- Not on any of the three units we track — all three are recorded as non-expandable in our sourced specifications. That is a meaningful constraint for home backup, where expansion is how most rivals turn a portable into a multi-day supply, so size a Yeti for what it holds on day one. This describes the three we track and not the wider Goal Zero range.
- Where can I compare two exact models?
- A head-to-head page owns that decision and keeps the query separate from this one. Compare exact models →
- How is the BatteryRank score calculated?
- The composite is price-independent and computed from published inputs with explicit missing-data rules. See the formula →
