A desk does not need much energy — a router and a laptop are a rounding error next to a refrigerator. What a desk needs is for nothing to blink. These 2026 stations publish a switchover time under 20 milliseconds and a fan-noise figure somebody actually measured.
A desk is the one backup scenario where energy is nearly irrelevant and timing is everything. A router and a laptop together draw less than a single lamp, so almost any station covers the day; what separates them is whether the handover is fast enough that the video call never drops and the desktop never reboots. Adding a published transfer ceiling and a measured noise figure turns a capacity contest into the contest the buyer actually cares about.
Where buyers get this ranking wrong
Buying capacity for a load that never needed it. Two kilowatt-hours will run a router for days, and the person who bought it still loses the call, because the station he chose takes long enough to switch that his equipment restarts. The second error is putting an unmeasured unit under the desk and discovering its fans are audible on every recording he makes.
What this ranking cannot see
The twenty-millisecond ceiling is our own published threshold, not a manufacturer standard, and whether your hardware survives any particular gap is a property of its internal power supply that consumer equipment does not disclose. Noise figures come from whoever measured them, at loads that may not resemble a quiet office, and a laptop charger barely troubles a fan that a laser printer would spin up instantly.
What a desk has to clear
01Eligibility starts with the sourced load: an 18 W router and modem running all day beside a 65 W laptop charger at half duty, checked by the shared sizing engine.
02A published UPS switchover of 20 milliseconds or less is then required. It is a hard gate, not a bonus — a station that does not publish a transfer time cannot claim one here.
03A sourced fan-noise figure is the third requirement, because this unit lives under a desk you take calls at. Models nobody has measured for noise are left off rather than assumed quiet.
What this rule turns away
16 of 80 tracked stations meet this list's eligibility rule, and the 10 highest-scoring of them are ranked above. The highest-scoring stations the rule excludes are EcoFlow DELTA Pro Ultra X, EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3 and DJI Power 1000 V2. They rank well elsewhere on the site; they do not answer this question.

Frequently asked
Will a power station keep my desktop from rebooting?
That depends on your power supply as much as the station. A desktop supply holds its output for a few tens of milliseconds after input is lost, which is why every station here publishes a switchover under 20 ms — but the only proof is pulling the plug and watching.
Do I need a station in pass-through mode, or is a normal one enough?
If nothing on the desk minds a brief interruption, a plain station you plug in after the outage is fine. Pass-through earns its keep only when equipment reboots on a blink, which mainly means desktops, network hardware, and anything with a spinning disk.
How quiet is quiet enough for calls?
Quiet enough that the fan stays off at desk loads, which is where the sourced noise figure matters more than the decibel number: a router and a laptop rarely wake the cooling on any unit here, but a heater on the same station will.
