Recharge time is the specification that decides whether a station is a one-shot reserve or something you can cycle daily. During a rolling outage the grid may only be up for an hour at a time; between two days of a shoot or a trip there is one night. A unit that refills in that window behaves like a much larger battery than its capacity suggests.

Where buyers get this ranking wrong

Buying the headline minute count without checking how it is reached. Almost every quick figure on this page describes a fast-charge mode that ships switched off, because pushing that much current through cells routinely is hard on them. Owners who never open the app get the conservative default and conclude the specification was a lie, when it was a setting they did not turn on.

What this ranking cannot see

These are manufacturer times on a strong outlet at a comfortable room temperature, and none of them account for a cold pack, a long extension lead, or the last few percent, which every lithium charger tapers deliberately. A figure quoted to a full charge and one quoted to eighty percent are not the same claim, and brands are inconsistent about saying which they mean.

Formula: published 0–100% wall-charge minutes

  • Ordered on the manufacturer figure for a full charge on grid power, fastest first. No station is credited with a speed nobody published.
  • Fast-charge modes are usually a setting, not the default — several units ship in a slower battery-preserving mode and reach these times only after the fast mode is switched on in the app.
  • A big battery that charges fast is doing more work than a small one at the same minute count; read this next to capacity, not instead of it.

Why does my station charge slower than the published time?
Most likely the fast-charge mode is off, which is the factory default on many models because high current shortens cell life. Cold cells and a shared circuit both extend the time as well.
Is charging quickly bad for the battery?
It is harder on the cells than a slow charge, which is precisely why manufacturers ship the conservative rate as the default and put the quick mode behind a switch. For a reserve unit that sits waiting, the slow rate costs you nothing.
